Community Events: Live Music, Theatre and Festivals in Mississauga

August 13, 2014
This weekend in Mississauga is sure to be a good one. Here is a list of some of the live music, theatre and festivals in Peel.

The 12th annual Buskerfest kicks off this Friday August 15th. Head over to Memorial park for acrobats, sword-swallowers, musical acts, magicians, contortionists, high flying stunts and more! You can ever take a class and learn how to be a busker yourself, and don't forget to check out the food. There's just too much to explain here, so go to their website for more info! http://www.portcreditbuskerfest.com/

On Friday night the Leslie Log House (map) will play host to The Bard's Bus Tour. The travelling group makes it's first stop in Mississauga with Shakespeare's The Tempest. The show begins at 7:30 at the Bradley Museum. Best of all, it's free!

Alex Sinclair will delight audiences on Friday with the On The Veranda Summer Concert Series at Benares Historic House. He has a soft folky style that will help you relax, or get up and dance!

Corn. Pig Roasts. Live Music. Three of our favorite summer things! This Saturday head over to the Streetsville Legion for a pulled pork sandwich, BBQ corn on the cob, and Chris Partland Band from 6pm to midnight!

Community News: Mississauga Creates Some of the Province's Best Athletes

July 24, 2014 - Updated: July 29, 2014
We've already told you many wonderful things about living in the Mississauga community - tons of community events, the beautiful waterfront and amazing houses - but did you know Mississauga also creates world class athletes?

August 5th marks the start of the Under 20 Women's World Cup and not one, but two young women from Mississauga and Brampton have been chosen for the 21 person team. Both girls gained their soccer skills playing for our very own Mississauga North Soccer Club.

And it's not just soccer players. Two young people from Kim Gym in Port Credit came first in Canada's Golden Gloves Boxing Championship last week, and Braydon Rennie of Mississauga just qualified for the Youth Olympics in track.

If you needed yet another reason to live in Mississauga, here it is: clearly, Mississauga creates some of the best athletes in the province!

Community Events: Make the most of your Summer Weeknights

July 15, 2014
We've filled our blogs with tons of information on weekend events in the community. But what about weeknights?

Celebration Square, which we profiled in our blog a few weeks ago, makes Wednesday nights interesting with an open mic night. Musicians from around the community can sign up with the Mississauga Arts Council, and we can all go for free. Do any of you have a hidden musical talent?

For the little ones, Malton and Woodlands libraries have free interactive events focused on the environment on Monday and Tuesday nights. Kids will learn about the 3 Rs and how worms help keep the environment green. See the poster below for more info.

Finally at MacEwan Terrace Garden, Thursday nights at 7:00pm enjoy the setting summer sun with a one hour group hiking trip.

Community Events: Pride Week in Peel, Garden Tours and more!

July 10, 2014 - Updated: July 10, 2014

This Friday marks the start of Pride Week in Peel. The week begins with a festival in Celebration Square Friday night, and a parade on Saturday.

Also on Saturday the Riverwood Conservancy will be hosting the MacEwan Terrace Garden Tour and Herb Walk. Between 10am and 2pm delight your family to a peaceful garden stroll in this community oasis just off of Burnamthorpe Rd, or take the Herb Walk to learn which herbs can spice up your recipes.

On Sunday, the Colour Run takes off from the Hershey Centre at 9am. Hundreds of participants will run in this 5km, un-timed race, and be doused in coloured powder. By the images from past events, it looks like a blast!
